Forest Hills Public Schools Child Care provides high-quality care for 600+ children during the school year with experienced and dedicated staff at every site. Located at nine of our elementary schools and offering licensed programs that follow Michigan regulations, we provide flexible scheduling options for working families.

What sets our program apart is our people. Every site is led by highly qualified directors and Child Care leaders — many holding teaching degrees or child care endorsements — who run programs that are safe, warm, fun, and organized. They’re supported by experienced, dedicated aides, and they continue growing through ongoing training throughout the school year. Spend a few minutes watching them with kids and their dedication is obvious.

7 AM to the start of school & end of school to 6 PM.

Care that fits your family’s schedule, before the first bell and after the last one. Children start and end their day in a familiar, welcoming environment at their own school, with time for homework help, active play, and hands-on activities led by staff they know.

Fall registration opens June 1, 2026 (9:00 AM for current FHPS Child Care families and June 3, 2026 (9:00 AM) for new families.

  • Monthly invoices are adjusted for district observed holidays

CARE ON NON SCHOOL DAYS

Scheduled non-school days (Holiday Recess, Spring Recess, Mid-Winter Break, Record Marking, day before Thanksgiving): Full-day care is available at Central Woodlands, 7:30 AM–5:00 PM, for $45/day. Advance registration is required — register on the child care website by the deadline, and your account must be current. Full-day registration only; no late registrations. Breakfast and two snacks provided; families pack a lunch with a drink. You’re only charged if you registered.

Inclement weather days: Full-day care at Central Woodlands, 7:30 AM–5:00 PM, $45/day, for children currently enrolled in the before/after school program. Breakfast and snacks provided; pack a lunch with a drink.

Care is not available on district observed holidays (Labor Day and the Friday before, Thanksgiving and the Friday after, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day, Memorial Day, and July 4th) or during the final two weeks of summer, when staff train and reset sites.

PRESCHOOL PROGRAM

Monday–Friday, 9:00–11:30 AM, 5 half days

Our two fee-based traditional preschools give young learners a warm, play-based introduction to school, guided by experienced early childhood staff. Children build early literacy, social, and motor skills in a nurturing environment that prepares them for a confident start to kindergarten.

ENROLLMENT

Children must be four years old by September 1 and independent bathroom users.

Registration for 2026–27 opens Monday, January 26, 2026, at 9:00 AM through EZChildTrack and continues until classes are full. To complete your registration:

  1. Submit the online application (be sure to select the correct location) and pay the $50 non-refundable registration fee online.
  2. Send a copy of your child’s state-issued birth certificate to the Child Care Office within two weeks — by fax, email, or mail.

TUTITION

Tuition is $280/month, payable in nine monthly payments. Statements and online bill pay are available through your EZChildTrack account.

OTHER PRESCHOOL OPTIONS

The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is a free, state-funded preschool program for four-year-olds, coordinated in our area by the Kent Intermediate School District. FHPS hosts GSRP classrooms in a majority of our elementary schools. We encourage families to explore both preschool options to find the right fit — contact the FHPS Child Care Office at (616) 493-8787.

When school’s out, the fun is just getting started. Summer Day Camp at Central Woodlands offers full days of games, crafts, field trips, and friendships in a safe, structured setting — the same quality staff and care families count on all school year long.

When registering through EZChildTrack, you’ll select the weeks your child will attend — a minimum of 4 weeks is required. No refunds are given for weeks dropped after April 15.

COST & PAYMENT

Camp is a prepaid program — tuition is based on your selected schedule, not attendance, and you’re charged for scheduled weeks whether or not your child attends. Monthly statements and online bill pay are available through your EZChildTrack account.

WHAT TO KNOW FOR CAMP DAYS

Lunch: Pack a cold sack lunch with a drink, labeled with your child’s name and date, unless the schedule says otherwise. No lunches that need heating or refrigeration.

First day: Arrive with a little extra time — there’s paperwork to sign, including permission forms for field trips and on-site special events.
