Summer Academy 2019

Forest Hills Public Schools offers summer programming for students interested in earning high school credit.  Prior to enrollment, please check with your school counselor to determine the appropriate course selection.

Summer Academy registration begins on May 10, 2019. Please see specific offerings below for registration deadlines.

Payment may be made with cash, check, or credit card (Visa and MasterCard only).  Please allow one business day for registration to be completed.  A $10 cancellation fee will be accessed if course is dropped.  Refunds can only be given if course is dropped within drop window.

Class Options

Face-to-Face Algebra 1

FHPS math teacher Andy Evans is the instructor. Class meets Monday-Wednesday 8:30 am-11:30 am (required), and Thursday (optional – office hours only) 8:00 am -2:00 pm. Mr. Evans is also available for support before class (8:00-8:30 am on M-W), and after class (11:30 am – 2:00 pm on M-W). Due to the concentrated format of this learning, families who are planning vacations that would result in more than one (1) missed day of instruction are advised to consider other options.

Credits: .5 Math (each semester)

1st Semester Session: June 10-July 11, 2019 (no class July 1-5)
1st Semester Registration Deadline: June 12, 2019

2nd Semester Session: July 15-August 8, 2019
2nd Semester Registration Deadline: July 16, 2019

Cost: $250 per session

Blended Learning J-Term Health Course

This course allows students to earn high school credit in a TWO WEEK, blended learning environment. The class will cover the content required for a Michigan Merit Curriculum Health .5 credit through both in-class, hands-on study and self-directed out of class homework. Students will take assessments throughout the two week course to show mastery of content. Following completion of the course, students will earn a grade on his or her transcript in FHPS.

Registration: May 10 – June 7 2019
Dates: June 10 – June 20, 2019 (Monday-Thursday Only, 8:00 am-12:00 pm)
Cost: $250

Online Credit Recovery through Edgenuity (e2020)

For the student who has previously attempted and failed a course for high school credit. Content and instruction are delivered by Edgenuity through its virtual learning platform. Optional support is offered in person by FHPS teachers Kristy Butler and/or David Fouch, T-Th 8:00 am-2:00 pm. In order for the course to be placed on the FHPS transcript, all final exams must be proctored by a FHPS staff member in the summer learning lab at Central Middle School, on or before August 9, 2019, at 3:00 pm.

Registration Deadline: June 21, 2019
Cost: $250 per course (maximum of two courses)
Dates: June 10-August 9, 2019 (no support lab during the week of July 1)

Virtual Learning Courses: Michigan Virtual University

For the student who is taking a course for the first time in order to advance. Content and instruction are delivered by Michigan certified, highly-qualified teachers in a virtual learning format. Please note that we do not offer Advanced Placement courses through our Summer Academy. Optional support is offered in person by FHPS teachers Kristy Butler and/or David Fouch, T-Th 8:00 am-2:00 pm. In order for the course to be placed on the FHPS transcript, all final exams must be proctored by a FHPS staff member in the summer learning lab at Central Middle School, on or before August 9, 2019, at 3:00 pm.

Registration Deadline: June 21, 2019
Cost: $350 per course
Dates: June 10-August 9, 2019 (No support lab during the week of July 1)
Class begins online: June 3, 2019

Note: If you enroll in an online course directly with MVU, your final exam must be proctored by one of our summer academy staff members in order for credit and your grade to transfer to your FHPS transcript. There is a $25 proctor fee that must be paid prior to taking the final exam. The last day to have exams proctored is August 9 (see above).
