Students from Forest Hills Northern High School’s FHN Drive program recently earned major recognition at the Square One Innovative Vehicle Design Competition held on Friday, May 8, bringing home multiple top awards for their student-built electric vehicle. Led by AP Physics 2 teacher Elbert Yeh, the team competed against other schools in engineering and performance challenges focused on innovation, teamwork, and vehicle design.
FHN Drive earned:
- Grand Champion
- 1st Place for Innovative Design
- 2nd Place in Performance
Over the course of the project, students worked together to design, build, test, and improve their electric vehicle while applying concepts learned in physics and engineering. The experience gave students the opportunity to solve real-world problems, collaborate as a team, and think creatively under pressure. Additionally, students created and implemented an ambassadorship activity at Northern Trails 5/6 School to inspire younger students to get involved in STEM activities.
