Central High School Takes the Stage with Broadway Comedy “Something Rotten!”
Central High School’s theatre program is bringing one of Broadway’s most outrageously entertaining musicals to the Forest Hills Fine Arts Center. “Something Rotten!” runs March 19–21, and audiences are in for a hilarious, high-energy night of theatre.
Set in Renaissance England in the 1590s, the show follows brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom, two struggling playwrights desperately trying to outshine the era’s biggest celebrity: William Shakespeare. Fed up with living in the Bard’s shadow, Nick consults a soothsayer who delivers a startling prediction: that the future of theatre involves actors singing, dancing, and performing all at the same time. Armed with this dubious forecast, the brothers set out to create the world’s very first musical.
What follows is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud comedy packed with big song-and-dance numbers, larger-than-life characters, and more Broadway references than you can shake a quill at. The show received 10 Tony Award nominations when it opened on Broadway in 2015 and was hailed as “the funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years.”
Performances are scheduled for on March 19, 20, and 21 at 7 p.m. with a matinee on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Forest Hills Fine Arts Center. Tickets are available online.
