No cell phones in class? It’s a good thing, student and principal say

October 29, 2024 Posted In: FHPS District News

From our partners at School News Network:

Cell phones: so convenient, so helpful, but for schools and students they can be such a big headache. A recent survey by Pew Research Center found 72 percent of K-12 teachers say students being distracted by cell phones in their classroom is a major problem. Some states such as Minnesota and California have restricted their use in schools, and the Michigan Legislature is considering a bill to do so. Several school districts have policies restricting their use by students during the school day, including Forest Hills Public Schools. Five years after that policy was adopted by that district, we checked in to see how it’s going with David Simpson, principal at Northern Middle School, and Ari James, a senior at Northern High School.
