Michigan lawmakers approved the state’s fiscal year 2024 budget, which includes funding for universal free meals for students at school. The state’s House and the Senate passed the budget, which allocates $160 million to provide free school meals daily for students this coming school year. Michigan is only 1 of 5 states to have the universal meal program for schools during the 2023-24 school year. While specifics of the program are still being ironed out at the state level, we know this is great news for our families. More information will be released soon to families about milk purchases, purchases for a la carte items, and more.
