The Forest Hills Public Schools Board of Education is pleased to announce that Sara Magaña Shubel, Ph.D., will serve as interim superintendent for Forest Hills Public Schools. Shubel began the role on July 1, as Daniel Behm, previous FHPS superintendent, retired at the end of June.
“Dr. Shubel is excited to be joining Forest Hills Public Schools as interim superintendent and we are thrilled to have her serve in this capacity,” said Kristen Fauson, FHPS board of education president. “Dr. Shubel brings a wealth of experience and a dedication to education and she will help the district navigate educational matters while the board searches for a permanent superintendent. She is committed to engaging with the Forest Hills community to further extend and enhance the excellence for which FHPS has long been known across Kent County and the State of Michigan.”
Dr. Shubel retired from East Grand Rapids Public Schools where she served as superintendent from 2006-2018. Her dedication to public education extends over 35 years in various educational roles. She has a passion for teaching, learning, and leading.
Dr. Shubel received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in linguistics, and a doctorate of philosophy in educational leadership from Michigan State University.
“We are eager to begin working with Dr. Shubel during this transition time, and we are grateful for Dan Behm’s dedication and service to our students, staff, and community for the last 17 years,” Fauson said. “He has poured his heart and soul into our school district and we are forever thankful for his leadership.”
