October 2014

Welcome  Forest Hills/Collins Families:

I cannot believe we are already into October.  Staff has been working extremely hard to teach your children.  We have also started to provide additional support through our Title I, 31A, STAR and English Learners interventions.  The interventionists are pushing into the classroom and also pulling students out to provide the support in reading and math.  Mrs. Beia, Mrs. Consolla, Mrs. Depuydt, Mrs. Patterson, Mrs. Soda, Mrs. Stegink, and Ms. West are valuable interventionists.

We look forward to seeing you in November for our Family/Parent/Teachers Conferences scheduled for Nov. 3 and 5 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm.  We will have our Book Faire the same nights as our conferences.  Come and visit the Book Faire after you have visited with the classroom teacher.

Open, clear, positive two-way communication is a key goal of any successful school. You are invited to communicate with us in person, via email or over the phone whenever you have questions or concerns. Our most important communication tools are our teacher newsletter/updates, our website, where our quarterly newsletters are found, and our Listserv. Listserv provides weekly updates on current events and other important notifications. Please make sure that you are signed up for our Listserv communication. Check out the calendar on the website for some important dates that we have so far.

Drop-off/Pick-up: If your child is NOT riding the bus, you can drop him/her off in front of Collins no earlier than 8:25 a.m. Please follow drop-off procedure signs. Your child may wait in the lobby until the school bell rings. If your child rides the bus, they will wait at the designated spot for their grade/classroom until the school bell rings. There are teachers assigned to assist bus riders all year long. Pick-ups will be escorted out the main entrance and picked up in the car line. We ask that you remain in your car in the car line to keep the line moving smoothly; your child will be brought to your car when you pull up. Child care students go directly to the cafeteria. IF YOU EVER HAVE A CHANGE TO YOUR CHILD’S TRANSPORTATION ROUTINE, YOU MUST SEND A NOTE IN YOUR CHILD’S FOLDER OR CONTACT THE OFFICE AS TEACHERS OFTEN DON’T HAVE TIME TO CHECK E-MAIL THROUGHOUT THE DAY.

Lunch Routines: Your child may either bring a lunch from home or purchase a school lunch. The menu choices are available at www.fhps.net/food-service/. There are financial opportunities to assist with the cost of lunch as well, applications on the website. School lunch is purchased through a debit card that can be pre-loaded through cash/check or electronically through the website. Please make sure that any money sent into school is clearly marked with your child’s name and purpose. Make sure that your child knows what his/her lunch choice is each day. Following lunch, they will go out for a recess. You are welcome to join your child for lunch, make sure you sign in at the front office; please call ahead if you will be eating a school lunch.
