It is the middle of November. The cold weather and frost are here. I hope that you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday in a few weeks. We have only have about a month of exciting and busy time of school ahead before the new year of 2014.
Thank you to all of our families for support of our Fall Husky Hike. We netted almost $21,000 to help fund our cultural arts, teacher wish list, technology support, collaboration time, and assemblies. We are very fortunate to have such a supportive PTO. Kate Gorski, you rock! We appreciate all your efforts to help raise money for Collins.
Our staff has been working extremely hard to meet every child at his/her potential. We are doing fantastic work in reading, writing, math, social studies, art, physical education, Spanish, and music. Thank you for taking the time out of your schedules to attend the conferences about your child. Conferences provide you feedback that you can use at home to help your child. Also, at conferences, many families were able to purchase books, posters, and other literary items at the Book Fair. Thank you to all the volunteer parents and especially Jennifer Christopher and Betsy Gundry for coordinating the successful Book Fair. Also, the meals that were coordinated by Jaye Jelier and Laurie Biebel were delicious and greatly appreciated for our family conference nights.
Also, visit our new Collins PTO website at www.collinspto.org. Thank you to Lee Anderson for all his hard work to create such an informative and useful website.
Remember to take the time to read with your child and limit the amount of television and video games. Make reading fun by having a positive attitude, providing choice, and having a reading environment. The more that your child reads at home, the more successful they will be at home. For math, remember to reinforce and extend the concepts and topics that are being covered in school. Playing math games is a great way to reinforce math facts (UNO, dominos, etc).
