Welcome Forest Hills/Collins Families:
We are so excited to welcome you back to one of the best school districts in the state of Michigan and an outstanding elementary school, Collins Elementary. We are excited that you will be joining the Collins community. Our parents, staff and students are very welcoming, and glad you are a part of our team. Our office has been open since August 11, 2014. Our office hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. We are always happy to assist you with any questions you may have.
Coming back to school in the Fall is an exciting time as well as a transition time for family. We will help your family in this transition to school in any way that we can. We know that you have been positive with your child/ren about this change in their lives. By pointing the new opportunities they will have and, the friends, teachers that they will be meeting; you can help plant the seeds for a successful transition to school. We find that often times the children embrace the transitions more readily than we adults do. Embracing change is a great life-long skill to have.
Curriculum Night is Tuesday, September 16th from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
(*Time has changed from the teacher letter)
Open, clear, positive two-way communication is a key goal of any successful school. You are invited to communicate with us in person, via email or over the phone whenever you have questions or concerns. Our most important communication tools are our teacher newsletter/updates, our website, where our quarterly newsletters are found, and our Listserv. Listserv provides weekly updates on current events and other important notifications. Please make sure that you are signed up for our Listserv communication. Check out the calendar on the website for some important dates that we have so far.
Drop-off/Pick-up: If your child is NOT riding the bus, you can drop him/her off in front of Collins no earlier than 8:25 a.m. Please follow drop-off procedure signs. Your child may wait in the lobby until the school bell rings. If your child rides the bus, they will wait at the designated spot for their grade/classroom until the school bell rings. There are teachers assigned to assist bus riders all year long. Pick-ups will be escorted out the main entrance and picked up in the car line. We ask that you remain in your car in the car line to keep the line moving smoothly; your child will be brought to your car when you pull up. Child care students go directly to the cafeteria. IF YOU EVER HAVE A CHANGE TO YOUR CHILD’S TRANSPORTATION ROUTINE, YOU MUST SEND A NOTE IN YOUR CHILD’S FOLDER OR CONTACT THE OFFICE AS TEACHERS OFTEN DON’T HAVE TIME TO CHECK E-MAIL THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
Lunch Routines: Your child may either bring a lunch from home or purchase a school lunch. The menu choices are available at www.fhps.net/food-service-2/. There are financial opportunities to assist with the cost of lunch as well, applications on the website. School lunch is purchased through a debit card that can be pre-loaded through cash/check or electronically through the website. Please make sure that any money sent into school is clearly marked with your child’s name and purpose. Make sure that your child knows what his/her lunch choice is each day. Following lunch, they will go out for a recess. You are welcome to join your child for lunch, make sure you sign in at the front office; please call ahead if you will be eating a school lunch.
