Teachers and staff were involved in the district kickoff Monday morning, learning new innovations for the classroom and having fun reconnecting with their colleagues across the district. Our teachers are revving up and getting classrooms prepared and going through professional learning experiences. They will be ready!! Are your students ready? Are you ready for school to start?

Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 5-6 p.m. is “Meet the Teacher Night” Classrooms 1st – 4th grade will be open for your students to come and meet their teacher, see their friends and drop off any school supplies.  The PTO ice cream social will be held from 5-7 p.m. so please go visit your classroom first before going to the ice cream social. Classrooms will be closed at 6 p.m. Tables will be set up for transportation, PTO, after school activities, Boy scout information, Childcare, and food service (in the cafeteria). Make sure you get all your questions answered before that important first day of school.

Take this week to prepare your student for the upcoming start of school. Earlier bedtimes and going over expectations and finding all those important things that are needed for a smooth transition in the morning. Have a practice day, make it fun!

We are all excited to see you at “Meet the Teacher” night! And then again on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 8.

Families,

Summer is almost over.  We have had a busy summer here at Collins.  Here is an update on changes in our staffing from last school year: Pam Stegink has joined our 1st grade team.  Chris Soda is moving down from 4th grade to teach 3rd grade this year.  Melissa Dembinski is our new art teacher.  Eric DeRuiter is our new head custodian.  We also have 6 Michigan State Teacher Interns in Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade (Kenna Holsinger, Alyssa Cody, Shelby Brubaker, Sophia Salani, Sara DeJonge, and Alyssa Fein).  Whew, I will communicate other staff updates as we start the school year.

We are very excited to see you again next week at our Open House and Ice Cream Social on 9/2, Wednesday.  You should be receiving your child’s class placement letter soon.  Please know a great deal of thought and reflection went into deciding which teacher your child will have this year.  We have placed students into specific classrooms that we see as the best fit for growth academically, socially, and emotionally.  After the first few weeks of school, Collins staff will reflect on and ensure a balanced learning environment for each child.

Also, please follow the 2 Google Form Links below.  We are trying to gather student directory and volunteer information in a more effective and ecologically-friendly manner.  There will still be a paper form in the school packets, but the Google Forms will enable us to gather all the pertinent information smoothly.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing everyone next week.

Sincerely,
