Thank You for Your Feedback on the Instructional Survey

May 21, 2015

 Dear Collins Families,

We have much to be proud of at Collins, but there is always more work to do. We’re committed to building positive, collaborative relationships with each of you, so we can be confident we’re always acting in the best interests of your children.

An important part of that work is taking the time to listen to you — your opinions and views of our school along with your suggestions for how we can improve your children’s experiences.

In January, the district launched its Instructional School Survey of Families to explore our families’ perspectives of their children’s learning environment. The survey was open to all Forest Hills families, and asked questions about important topics like academic standards, student support, communication, leadership and instruction.

In total, 1,602 surveys were submitted, including 77 from our school.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this survey. Through your candid feedback, we can determine which areas need our attention and where we should stay the course, positioning our future actions to truly make a difference for all our students.

District wide, nine out of 10 participating families said they are satisfied with their children’s schools, and 92% said their children’s schools are clearly focused on student achievement. In another positive finding, 88% said all students at their children’s schools are expected to achieve at a high level.

For Collins, your responses showed that we can continue to improve in the area of communicating how teachers use a variety of student information to make instructional decisions.

As a result of your feedback, the district has identified a goal of improving communication about instructional planning and decision-making.

At Collins, our school success team will focus on the district goal as well as improving proficiency in reading, writing, math, social studies, and science.  We want to use our data to inform instruction to improve student learning.

As we continue our pursuit of excellence, I encourage you to stay connected and engaged with us. Only by working together can we truly help all learners acquire the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to build meaningful and productive lives.

Thank you for your continued commitment to Forest Hills Public Schools and Collins.

Sincerely,

Mitchell Balingit

Principal, Collins
