January/February 2015

Winter is upon us.  Please remember to send your child with all necessary winter attire – gloves, jackets, hat, snow pants, and boots.  We want to make the winter as enjoyable as possible for all of our students.

Family Teacher Conferences nights will be held February 19 and 24.  We enjoy sharing all the wonderful growth that your child has made so far this year.  Report cards will be coming out during the first week of February 2015.  The report cards will provide feedback from staff on how your child is progressing toward year-end grade level expectations.  We will also have lots of fabulous books available during the conferences night with our Book Fair.

We have appreciated the hard work of all our staff this year.  Students are receiving strong core content in all academic areas.  We provide interventions to our students who may need an additional support using our Title I, 31A, and English Learners staff.

We will continue our Monthly Character Education Focus.  We are coordinating our reading and social skills focus each month with a positive character trait.  Staff is selecting students of the month who showcase the trait for the month.  Students are able to articulate in his/her own words what he/she has learned about that specific character education trait.

Open, clear, positive two-way communication is a key goal of any successful school. You are invited to communicate with us in person, via email or over the phone whenever you have questions or concerns. Our most important communication tools are our teacher newsletter/updates, our website, where our quarterly newsletters are found, and our Listserv. Listserv provides weekly updates on current events and other important notifications. Please make sure that you are signed up for our Listserv communication. Check out the calendar on the website for some important dates that we have so far.

Drop-off/Pick-up: If your child is NOT riding the bus, you can drop him/her off in front of Collins no earlier than 8:25 a.m. Please follow drop-off procedure signs. Your child may wait in the lobby until the school bell rings. If your child rides the bus, they will wait at the designated spot for their grade/classroom until the school bell rings. There are teachers assigned to assist bus riders all year long. Pick-ups will be escorted out the main entrance and picked up in the car line. We ask that you remain in your car in the car line to keep the line moving smoothly; your child will be brought to your car when you pull up. Child care students go directly to the cafeteria. IF YOU EVER HAVE A CHANGE TO YOUR CHILD’S TRANSPORTATION ROUTINE, YOU MUST SEND A NOTE IN YOUR CHILD’S FOLDER OR CONTACT THE OFFICE AS TEACHERS OFTEN DON’T HAVE TIME TO CHECK E-MAIL THROUGHOUT THE DAY.

Lunch Routines: Your child may either bring a lunch from home or purchase a school lunch. The menu choices are available at www.fhps.net/food-service/. There are financial opportunities to assist with the cost of lunch as well, applications on the website. School lunch is purchased through a debit card that can be pre-loaded through cash/check or electronically through the website. Please make sure that any money sent into school is clearly marked with your child’s name and purpose. Make sure that your child knows what his/her lunch choice is each day. Following lunch, they will go out for a recess. You are welcome to join your child for lunch, make sure you sign in at the front office; please call ahead if you will be eating a school lunch.
