Congratulations to Sara Gupta, senior at Forest Hills Northern, for receiving a National Merit Scholarship backed by the Eaton Charitable Fund. According to the Mlive article by Jackie Smith, Seventeen high-school seniors across Michigan have been named in the first group of winners in this year’s National Merit Scholarship Program. According to a news release, roughly 700 college-bound students overall are receiving National Merit Scholarship awards financed by 115 corporations, company foundations, and other business organizations, including some with established endowments. The awards are largely renewable for up to four years of recipients’ undergraduate schooling with annual stipends ranging from $1,000 to $10,000, though some provide single $2,500 and $10,000 payments. Those selected in this round had advanced to the finalist level in the general National Merit Scholarship competition, but also met the criteria of scholarship sponsors.
