While traditionally the first week of May is set aside to honor our teachers, we think it is time to honor our teachers during the entire month of May. Furthermore, in our district, we salute not only teachers but all staff.
If you have a special shout-out or salute to a staff member or team of educators, please email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will share it on social media and also post it on this web page.
Math, Science, AP Teachers at FHC
SHOUT-OUT: Math, Science, and AP teachers at FHC! We cannot thank you enough for all you have done for our children. Each one of you has enriched the lives of both our daughter and son, and we will be forever grateful for the gift of an unbelievable education they received at Forest Hills Central.
Mrs. Koenigsknecht and Mr. Lillie
SHOUT-OUT: Thank you to Mrs. Koenigsknecht and Mr. Lillie at Central Woodlands 5/6. Distance learning hasn’t been easy but they both were dedicated to continue with enthusiasm. Both my boys were lucky to experience their gifts and are better for that! Continue to shine. You both make a difference in the growth of children.
Mrs. Jane Warren
SHOUT-OUT: Mrs. Warren at Meadow Brook Elementary School. She is retiring this month after 35 years with FHPS, most of them at Meadow Brook. Retired or not, she will always be a valued member of our family here at school and I am sad that she is not getting the goodbye send-off she deserves from families and students. Her warm smile and caring presence in the office will be dearly missed, but we wish her all the best and happy retirement! We love you, Mrs. Warren!
SHOUT-OUT: Mrs. Hayhurst- thank you so much for your hard work, attention to detail, and positive energy! Our daughter does not want summer vacation to come because she will not see you in Zoom!! Thank you!
SHOUT-OUT: Ms. Ostrowski just started in her role at Thornapple, but she has made this whole transition to distance learning so seamless and positive for our daughter. We are grateful for all of her hard work!
Fifth-Grade Teachers at Orchard View
SHOUT-OUT: Fifth-grade teachers at Orchard View! Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Hoeks, and Mr. Adams were wonderful with the distance learning, all used one platform to make it easy to navigate the technology, created YouTube lessons which were greatly loved with bad jokes and fun graphics, and went above and beyond with their Zoom calls! We are so very grateful to them!
Mrs. Homrich and Mrs. Peneycad
SHOUT-OUT: to Mrs. Homrich and Mrs. Peneycad at Central Woodlands. While distance learning was not the way we wanted to end our time at CW, these two teachers have made it work and have done an amazing job! They have gone above and beyond with Zoom calls, daily lessons and assignments, a weekly calendar, keeping parents informed, and having fun activities for the kids to do as well! We appreciate all their hard work. Here’s a HUGE shout-out to Mrs. Homrich and Mrs. Peneycad!
SHOUT OUT: We were so happy to see our daughter’s awesome first-grade teacher, Mrs. Karas, along with other happy, smiling, familiar Meadow Brook teachers and staff at the school supplies pickup/drop off! We miss seeing all those happy faces regularly and the routine and comfort of going to school. We hope everyone has a healthy and happy summer break! ☀️
SHOUT-OUT: Mrs. Bunsee, Meadow Brook Elementary. The students and families wanted to show their teacher how much they support, appreciate, and love her. While we’ve heard it many times, that this was not the way we wanted the school year to end, respect, appreciation, and admiration can be shown in so many ways.
SHOUT-OUT: Ms. DeBoer at Collins Elementary. Ms. DeBoer is a master teacher. She is knowledgeable of the curriculum and the learning of her students. Even more, she is embracing all types of learners. She accepts each student for who they are and helps them grow. Her thoughtfulness, caring, and mindfulness have allowed my daughter to soar. I am full of gratitude for her!
SHOUT-OUT: I would love to thank Ms. Aaron (Title 1) for her hard work doing Zoom reading sessions and caring about my son even though they aren’t in class.
SHOUT-OUT: to Ms. Johnson (Orchard View). Her fun Friday Zoom calls have been a favorite, and when my son wants to send her an assignment he did, she always responds. Although this distance learning has been a challenge she has run with it.
Mrs. Rundquist and the Meadow Brook Staff
SHOUT-OUT: to Mrs. Rundquist and the entire Meadow Brook staff for going above and beyond during these crazy and challenging times. Mrs. Rundquist’s lessons and daily read-alouds are fun and engaging. My first-grader cannot wait to watch her videos every day and see her always smiling face! Thank you Mrs. R and Meadow Brook for your constant love and support.
SHOUT-OUT: to Melissa Ennis, art teacher at Orchard View. The step-by-step videos she creates are amazing. She also uses simple household materials to make it easy for parents. We look forward to art days here!
SHOUT-OUT: Mrs. Boersma at Knapp Forest. Her class surprised her with each child hopping out, putting a sign in her yard, getting air hugs, and actual face time with their beloved teacher. This happened during her scheduled Friday morning Zoom meeting.
SHOUT-OUT: We love Mr. Kornoely at Pine Ridge! He is silly, down to earth, understanding, and makes distance learning fun and engaging. He has made the biggest difference for my daughter’s confidence and love for learning. Thank you Mr. Kornoely! You are amazing!
Mr. Kornoely IS amazing! He made learning interesting and fun even in this crazy time. Each Friday, he caught up with his students, read to them, and did a drawing lesson. My son misses him so much!
SHOUT-OUT: Mrs. Morris at Pine Ridge is absolutely amazing! She always goes out of her way for each child and loves each one as her own! My daughter looks forward to watching Mrs. Morris every morning in her lessons! She has made distance learning fun and engaging. My daughter has learned a lot from home! You are the best Mrs. Morris! We love you to the moon and back!
SHOUT-OUT: Mrs. Kemperman at Meadow Brook Elem. Not even the rain could keep students and families away from a car parade by Mrs. Kemperman’s house to show their appreciation and admiration. As Mrs. Kemperman said, “I am so proud to work/live in a wonderful district where we celebrate each other and lift each other up. Spread kindness like confetti!”
SHOUT-OUT: Ms. DeRosier (Kindergarten, Meadow Brook) for her kind heart! When asked at the beginning of the year what her goal was for each student, she said, “For them to fall in love with learning!” She’s a first-year teacher, but you’d never know it with her masterful ability to encourage students to use their persistence power until they reach their goals! Her ability to adapt so fluidly to virtual learning is very much appreciated and has helped make this transition to “hybrid homeschooling” a mostly seamless one! Thank you Ms. DeRosier!
Goodwillie 5th-Grade Teacher Team
SHOUT-OUT: Goodwillie 5th-grade team! The students and their parents had a parade in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week for 5th-grade GES teachers Meg Ayars and Brent Southland (affectionately known to their students as “A” and “S”). Nearly 52 cars showed up with Goodwillie students. Students were able to wave hello and say thank you and drop off gifts while still maintaining appropriate social distancing, and the teachers were very surprised and loved it! We love Goodwillie, the teachers, and staff, and miss this amazing educational team. This year, this school and these teachers are such a gift. 💙

SHOUT-OUT: We absolutely love Mrs. Fowler at Thornapple Elementary! Her ability to connect to all types of learners in kindergarten is truly remarkable! She understands the importance of learning through play at this age, which is a blessing to a mom with boys! 😍 – we need more Mrs. Fowler’s in the world! 💕 (Show your appreciation to a staff member or team, and email us at email@example.com or through Facebook messenger.)

SHOUT-OUT: I would love to send a shout out to Mrs. Emily Blink at Eastern High School. She is more than “just” a choir teacher extraordinaire. She is a caring lifeline for my daughter and so many others. The students know she cares about them as people and the talent and self-confidence she pulls out of these kids is amazing. She is one of the reasons my daughter gets up and goes to school every day. Thank you, Mrs. Blink, for the difference you make!
SHOUT-OUT to WGVU Cool Teacher, Jennifer Gregory at Ada Vista Elementary School.
SHOUT-OUT to Mrs. Spindle at Collins. For Friday’s Project 64 lesson she had a real fire truck come to her house to give a tour of it before the kids drew the picture. They were so excited! Mrs. Spindle’s joy of doing this kind and amazing act shined through.
SHOUT-OUT: Our son has had the absolute BEST of the best! He started out with Mrs Neumaier- she was so knowledgeable and helped to make our son’s first year of school SO fun and memorable! Mrs. Terwilliger followed in first grade. Our son wanted to be at school every. single. day. She’s the perfect mix of love and high expectations. He thrived in her classroom! He now has Mrs. Crampton- she is loving, kind, energetic, and SO very fun! I don’t want his year in her classroom to end- the time and love that she puts into her kids and her classroom is BEYOND amazing! Not to mention the support staff….Mrs Amsbury, Mr Stewart, Mrs Glazer……the smiling wonderful secretaries-Mrs Keyworth and Mrs Remington. Thank you all for the love and care that you put into our kids!! Oh how we love our school!! 😍😍❤️❤️❤️
