Forest Hills Public Schools is excited to announce, that due to the increased enrollment and enthusiasm for our Junior Kindergarten program, we now have enough students to run at least one Junior Kindergarten classroom at each of our elementary schools (except Ada Vista Elementary School, our Spanish immersion school) for the upcoming 2025-26 school year. We couldn’t be more pleased with this overwhelming response from our Forest Hills families.
In addition to this great news, the district will also be conducting one more Junior Kindergarten/Kindergarten screening event before the summer. The event will be on Monday, June 2, at the Forest Hills Fine Arts Center, with three sessions for families to choose from. All incoming Huskies, Hawks, and Rangers eligible for Junior Kindergarten or Kindergarten must participate in a screening event. If you have not participated in a screening event, we encourage you to take part in the event on Monday, June 2. If you are unable to attend the screening on June 2, we will have another screening event in August before school starts. Remember you must first enroll before signing up for a screening event.

What to expect: Our student screening process is fun, interactive, and engaging. These events help our teachers get to know the children, gather valuable information to support families in making placement decisions, and create well-balanced classrooms. Each child must attend one 45-minute screening session, and a parent or guardian must remain onsite during the screening. While the students participate in the screening, parents and guardians will attend a presentation and information session.
What Does the Student Screening Look Like?
-
It will take approximately 45 minutes.
-
FHPS instructional staff will work with children in a small group setting (parents/guardians will be with administrators for a presentation during this time).
-
The screener is “play-based,” so children will have access to manipulatives and educational tools/toys.
-
Staff will be observing school readiness, social skills, fine motor skills, and academics.
-
Children will engage in interactive play with peers.
-
Children will engage in a coloring activity.
