Ayesha Jeddy, a 2021 graduate of Forest Hills Central High School, approached the Ada Elementary art teacher, Mrs. Pachulski, with the idea of creating a mural at Ada Elementary. Being a former Ada Elementary student, Ayesha was looking for a way to use her artistic talents to make an impact and give back to the Forest Hills community. The two collaborated on the idea for Ayesha to create a mural with the theme of kindness; a theme that is central to the positive school culture at Ada Elementary. According to Ayesha, “the main intent was to highlight Ada Elementary’s overarching theme of kindness while making the entire process into an interactive and personal experience for the kids.”
Ayesha spent countless hours during the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years creating the mural. She also obtained the help of her friends, Ana Ahmed and Valerie Greenwood, also former Ada Elementary students. Ayesha shared that her friends were eager to help paint the mural and were inspired by “their own fond memories of Ada Elementary and its art department.” Ayesha explains that, “We simply hoped to return the immense sense of community and goodwill we were embraced with eight years ago at Ada Elementary.”
The theme of the mural, “Spread Kindness to Everyone,” is portrayed with a large heart centered in the middle, surrounded by textured feathers that create angel wings on both sides of the heart. The feathers were created from paper painted by students at Ada Elementary. Soft, billowing clouds with golden highlights fill the space in the background. The mural was placed low on the wall near the school’s library to give students the opportunity to pose in front of it with their arms spread open like wings. The mural was completed before the 2020-21 school year ended and will make for a wonderful photo opportunity for years to come.
“Ayesha, Valerie, and Ana showed incredible dedication and commitment to this meaningful project,” said Pachulski. “It will have a positive impact on all who see it and inspire students, staff, and Ada families to spread kindness to everyone.”
