Welcome to the inaugural Express Yourself learning initiative sponsored by Global Learners Initiative. This space is dedicated to commemorate social justice and the work done by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Every year, schools, teachers, and students are encouraged to continue conversations around social justice by participating in a building-wide MLK commemorative social justice experience. This year, Forest Hills Public Schools wanted to provide an optional opportunity and platform for our schools and individuals to share their experiences with the community. For this project, called Express Yourself, students, teachers, and staff could create an original piece that expressed their thoughts, views, and feelings about social justice work. Students could submit their own works or collaborate with other students. Some schools chose a school-wide project to reflect on how individuals are inspired by the words and work of social justice advocates and leaders. We hope you enjoy our students’ submissions and works and are inspired to share your voice, take a stand, and continue to dialogue well beyond MLK Day and Black History Month. If you want to know more about individual school’s efforts in commemorating the legacy of Dr. King and social justice, please contact the school principal(s).
