We are extremely excited to announce that the USDA has extended a federal waiver allowing all students to receive school breakfast (at eligible schools only) and lunch completely free of charge through Dec. 31, 2020, or until federal funds are exhausted. We strongly encourage all of our students to take advantage of this program!
It is important to note, free meals only apply to complete meals, not à la carte items such as drinks, snacks, extra entrees, and milk without a meal. If your student wants to purchase à la carte items, they may do so and families may deposit money into a child’s lunch account for these items by visiting www.schoolpay.com. School menus are available to view online at fhps.nutrislice.com/.
The process for our K-6 students will not change. In the morning, breakfast carts are available in the hallways at Meadow Brook and Orchard View elementary schools. Students may pick up a free breakfast from these carts. Students will place lunch orders with teachers in the morning and meals will be delivered to classrooms at lunchtime with a few exceptions. Students at Central Woodlands, Northern Trails, and Eastern Middle will continue to use their current process of picking up free lunches from mobile pick up carts.
For breakfast at Eastern middle and high, and Northern middle and high, students may stop by the cafeteria in the morning on their way to class to pick up a free breakfast.
For lunch, there will be a new process beginning Sept. 14, 2020, at Eastern high, Northern middle and high, and Central middle and high. Students will no longer need to pre-order their lunch at kiosks in the morning. Instead, students will pick up their free lunch from the cafeteria to take back to their classroom. Students will be released in small groups and social distancing will be maintained. For students at Eastern Middle School, students will continue to pick up their hot lunches from a mobile cart in the middle school wing.

We continue to urge all families to fill out and/or update the free and reduced-price school meal applications by visiting www.lunchapp.com. This important task will allow for continuity of services in January and through the remainder of the school year. Significant federal funding for our district is also directly tied to this information.
