Dear Forest Hills Families and Staff Members: It is with a broken heart that I share the news of the passing of Mr. Tim Hollern, assistant principal of Eastern High School. Tim passed away from COVID-19 along with complications from his long fight with cancer.
Mr. Hollern was a beloved teacher, coach, and school administrator. He was also a warrior for positivity and all that is good. He spread smiles and goodwill wherever he went. During his nine-year journey with metastatic cancer, Tim was always focused on everyone else and what he could do to help a student, a colleague, or a stranger. He loved coming to work and serving his school and community. Always a teacher and always humble, Tim taught through his example. Caring, teamwork, dedication, integrity, and building relationships were at the heart of his daily walk as an educator and as a person.
Mr. Hollern began his tenure in Forest Hills as a teacher at Northern High School in 2000. He became the assistant principal/athletic director at Eastern High School in 2007 and assistant principal at Eastern High in 2010. In 2019, Mr. Hollern also took on the responsibility as principal for Goodwillie Environmental School. During his 20 years in Forest Hills Public Schools, Mr. Hollern had a profound and positive impact on thousands of students and colleagues.
Our crisis team is available for anyone – student or adult – who may need to talk with a grief counselor. Simply reach out to a principal and we can establish a connection.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Tim’s wife, children, mother, and siblings. We are grateful that Tim’s family was at his side when he passed.
