Patti Richardson, a science teacher at Forest Hills Central High School, is among this year’s honorees of the 2020 Betty Van Andel Teachers of Excellence award in conjunction with the Van Andel Institute for Education. According to VAI’s website, 24 teachers from four states were recipients of the 2020 Betty Van Andel Teachers of Excellence award. These outstanding educators were selected for their hard work and dedication to their students, and for creating classrooms where curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking thrive.
The announcement coincided with Teacher Appreciation Week, held May 4–8, 2020.
“The Teachers of Excellence honor is named for Betty Van Andel, a former elementary school teacher who co-founded Van Andel Institute with husband Jay Van Andel,” said VAI’s Chief Education Officer Terra Tarango. “During the early planning stages for the Institute, Betty was intent on the inclusion of Van Andel Institute for Education, saying ‘As a teacher, my lifelong dream was to provide a foundation for the children of future generations to follow and realize their dreams.’”
