The First Technical Challenge competition season kicked off here in West Michigan with the Kentwood competition where both of our Forest Hills middle school robotics teams competed. Our ASTEROIDS team #14486 came home with the Inspire Award which is the highest award from the event. It recognizes the team which “best embodies the ‘challenge’ of the FIRST Tech Challenge program.” They were also finalists for the Innovate, Motivate, and Design awards. The ASTEROIDS team is made up of students from Eastern and Central middle schools.
Our METEORS team #12845 had a great day on the competition field and was selected to be part of the second-seeded alliance for the playoffs. Partnered with team #5960 from Battle Creek and #15815 from Caledonia they made their way to the finals where they knocked off the top-seeded alliance. They also took home the Connect Award. The METEORS team is made up of students from Eastern and Northern middle schools.
The results from the Kentwood competition qualified both the ASTEROIDS and the METEORS to compete at the Michigan State Championship Tournament which will be held Dec. 13-14 at the Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.
