One of our very own custodians is in contention for national recognition for Custodian of the Year in the United States! Tim Persenaire, or “Mr. Tim,” has been selected among the top 10 finalists for Custodian of the Year! Now the public can decide who will receive this recognition by voting. The finalist receiving the most votes will be named Custodian of the Year. While his duties primarily are at the Knapp Forest and Orchard View elementary schools, Persenaire is everyone’s custodian and always has children’s best interests at heart. The following is a portion of his biography submitted for the recognition:
There’s no job too big or too gross for Mr. Tim, the custodian at two Grand Rapid elementary schools for nearly 40 years. This winter, students and faculty have had 13 snow days, but Mr. Tim has had none, always showing up early to shovel and salt sidewalks in freezing temperatures. He even created several large snow hills for students to play on during recess! Being only one of three custodians in two large schools, Mr. Tim has an endless to-do list, but he always makes time for curious children – whether they want to know how to change a light bulb or how he builds the sets for an upcoming musical or play.
Let us show the world how amazing our “Mr. Tim” truly is and help us bring awareness to our unsung heroes, such as custodians, food service workers, bus drivers, and many more individuals who help make school a positive experience for our students. Online voting is not limited to emails, IP addresses, or the number of times per day. Vote and vote often. Please vote for Tim Persenaire here! Online voting closes April 19, 2019.
The award was created to shine a spotlight on custodians who often receive little recognition for their hard work and dedication. The contest will award $5,000 to the winning custodian and $5,000 in Cintas and Rubbermaid products and services to the winning custodian’s school. A $500 cash prize will be awarded to an additional top nine finalists.
