On Wednesday, during yet another snow day for students, learning continued for the FHPS Chinese immersion teachers. They participated in a collaborative professional learning session with their Chinese immersion colleagues from Greenville Public Schools. The session was facilitated by Shuhan C. Wang, Ph.D., president of ELE Consulting International, LLC, and director of the Chinese Early Language and Immersion Network (CELIN) at the Asia Society, and co-editor of a series of CELIN Briefs published by the Asia Society. This great professional learning opportunity was made possible thanks to the collaboration between GPS and FHPS.
The FHPS Mandarin Chinese immersion program continues to capture national headlines and was featured by the Asia Society’s Learning Initiatives Center for Global Education. The society featured the district in its online winter publication called, “Chinese Language Matters.” Additionally, the FHPS program also has a profile on the society’s Chinese Early Language and Immersion Network or CELIN. CELIN makes available an online directory of Chinese early language and immersion programs, as well as shares best practices in immersion education, supports professional development, and encourages research, curriculum, instruction and assessment in Chinese immersion education.
