As part of an empathy-building school-wide project at Central Woodlands 5/6 School, students collected and donated over 600 pairs of shoes for Soles4Souls, a nonprofit organization which helps create sustainable jobs and provides relief through the distribution of shoes and clothing around the world. Additionally, these students, in conjunction with their STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) class, created pendants out of clay that had the impression of their own shoe’s sole embedded into it, and the students sold the pendants with proceeds going to the Soles4Souls organization. This year-long empathy project supported the school’s theme, “Walk in someone else’s shoes.”
School News Network also covered the initial part of the story regarding the pendant making. Click here for the complete story online with SNN: https://www.schoolnewsnetwork.org/2018/04/24/compassion-in-verse-art-and-service/
