Fourth-grade students in the Mandarin Chinese Immersion program at Meadow Brook Elementary School presented the instructional highlight at the recent board of education meeting. The students spoke in Mandarin and then translated their presentation to English. The students talked about why they enjoy learning Mandarin Chinese and what they have learned about Chinese culture, art, music, history, traditions, and much more. Most recently Meadow Brook students celebrated the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dog. Students in grades kindergarten through four experience a 50/50 one-way immersion model. Upon entrance to grade five, the program shifts to an intensive Mandarin language and literacy block, designed to build upon the K-4 base and further deepen speaking, listening, reading, and writing capacity in Mandarin.
