Dr. Judy Walton, Forest Hills Public Schools chief innovation officer, will be among the lead presenters at this year’s West Michigan Education Leadership Conference in December. She and Dr. Simeon Frang, director of curriculum for Orchard View Public Schools in Muskegon will present on, “Student Voice: Amplifying the Acoustic in Practice and Policy-Making.” According to Walton and Frang, students with a strong sense of voice are seven times more likely to be academically motivated. Their session will engage participants with models of student voice and adaptation for any educational setting. Student voice as an equal partner in school improvement provides spaces and opportunities for both educators and students to collaborate around outcomes with a student-centered focus. Participants will interact with various models of student voice that contribute to important forms of engagement and collaboration around the teaching and learning experience.
