WGVU - Cool Teacher at Ada Elementary

Heather Schanski, a first grade teacher at Ada Elementary, was interviewed and filmed by WGVU on Friday, April 20.  Heather was one of 21 teachers chosen for the year as a “cool teacher.”    Olivia Fair, One of her students, wrote a letter nominating her.   Congratulations Heather!!

Kids Food Basket – April 16-20, 2012

Dear Forest Hills Public Schools Families:

The Food Service Department is pleased to announce we will be holding a district-wide food drive for National Volunteer Week benefiting Kids Food Basket the week of April 16 – 20, 2012.  Kids Food Basket is the West Michigan force for attacking childhood hunger.  They provide an evening meal called a Sack Supper to food-insecure children at the end of the school day in Kent County.

K-12 students may bring items to their school cafeteria any day during that week for the food drive.  The Food Service Department will bring collected items to the main kitchen and then un-package them to present to Kids Food Basket. Read more

FHPS to Partner with Chinese School

As China continues to grow economically, many American schools are trying to prepare their students academically to compete and do business with the Chinese.

Meadow Brook Elementary School in Forest Hills has continued to develop its Chinese programs over the last five years.

Community Fliers

We are asked almost every day to distribute fliers to our students. The District would like families to be able to access all non-profit community events online.  We are now going green and posting approved fliers on our website. Please go to “Families” and click on “Community Fliers.”

CMS - National History Day & Mathcounts Competitions

National History Day Competition

Central Middle School was represented at The National History Day Competition this weekend at Grand Valley State University.  Students who participated are: Bradley Benstein, Meredith Farmer, Cecelia Batterbee, and Noah Saleh. Congratulations to Bradley for qualifying for the state competition at Central Michigan in April!

 

Mathcounts

Congratulations to the Central Middle School Mathcounts team of Cooper James, Ruchir Gupta, Josh Kooistra, and Max Moore.  They finished in sixth place out of 24 teams at the state competition at Ferris State University on Saturday, March 17.!

Students Push Themselves Training for Irish Jig Race to Support 'Awesome' Assistant Principal Battling Colon Cancer

When Tim Hollern’s sister-in-law began organizing a team of runners for the Irish Jig to honor his battle with colon cancer, he expected a couple dozen family members would respond to the call.

Hollern, a 36-year-old assistant principal at Forest Hills Eastern High School, clearly underestimated his support.

More than 100 friends and family members plan to run in Saturday’s race as part of Team Tim, including a dozen special education students who have been training for six weeks to make the 5-kilometer run. The team has sold more than 200 T-shirts to raise money for Spectrum Health’s fund for colorectal cancer research and patient care.
