SCIENCE 7
The general science curriculum is well balanced between content and process. Main units include: atmosphere &
weather, the geosphere, matter & energy, and ecosystems.
CHALLENGE SCIENCE 7
Challenge Science 7 pacing moves much faster and involves more in-depth, advanced and challenging readings,
projects, tests, writings, and discussions.
FOUNDATIONS OF SCIENCE 8
This course includes essential Earth Science and Physical Science high school content expectations. Students who
demonstrate mastery of the course content will earn up to one Michigan Merit Curriculum Science credit. Final semester
grades and credit will be recorded on the student’s high school transcript.
HONORS FOUNDATIONS OF SCIENCE 8
Honors Foundations of Science follows the essential and core Earth Science and Physical Science high school content
expectations. However, this course moves at a faster pace and involves more in-depth instruction and higher-level
thinking applications. Students who demonstrate mastery will earn up to one Michigan Merit Curriculum Science credit. .
Final semester grades and credit will be recorded on the student’s high school transcript.
REQUIRED COURSE SELECTION INFORMATION:
The guidelines listed below are for seventh and eighth grade students to follow in their course selection for the school year.
• Seventh and Eighth grade students are required to take a full year of math, science, language arts, social studies (These
courses will be automatically scheduled).
• Seventh and Eighth grade students are required to take three nine-week sections of physical education (These courses will
be automatically scheduled).
• Middle school students are required to take one nine-week course of Computer Technology and Literacy in
seventh or eighth grade. Students who already possess exceptional computer skills may choose to take a
competency test to opt out of this required course. Students who attain 75% or higher on the competency test will
be permitted to elect an additional exploratory course.
