ART COURSES:
ART EXPLORATIONS – One quarter
This class provides the opportunity for students to dive into a variety of creative experiences in both two and threedimensional
design. Students will increase their skill levels and visual literacy as they study and use the elements and
principles of design. Drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts, computers, and cartooning are just a few of the means students
may explore for creative expression. Cross-curricular connections are made throughout the course.
CLAY AND SCULPTURE 1 – One quarter
In this class, clay and its many possibilities will be explored. Several hand building methods and glazing techniques will
be presented. Both functional and non-functional pieces will be encouraged. Other three-dimensional areas will be
investigated.
CLAY AND SCULPTURE 2 – One quarter
Express yourself with 3-D media! This course will focus on materials and forms worked with in ceramics. You may chose
to make a clock or a lamp, work with marbling glaze, or create a mocha tea; build something traditional, build something
phenomenal! Prerequisite: Clay and Sculpture 1 (Students who had Clay & Sculpture in 7th grade have fulfilled the
prerequisite.)
DIGITAL IMAGING 1 – One quarter
A fantastic blend of technology, creativity, and you!! In this class you will learn the basics of digital photography, including
composition, lighting, and camera settings. You will use Adobe PhotoShop Elements 5.0, a layer-based program to
manipulate and/or modify your photographs. As an added benefit, this course will begin with some basic drawing
exercises designed to increase your drawing skills.
DIGITAL IMAGING 2 – One quarter
This course extends the learning from Digital Imaging I, working more in depth with composition, lighting, and camera
settings. A variety of photo genre will be studied, including (but not limited to) portraiture, photojournalism, and
photography as part of graphic design. Students in this course will also engage in more challenging and innovative work
with Adobe Photoshop Elements. Prerequisite: Digital Imaging 1
DRAWING AND PAINTING 1 – One quarter
Whether you are just starting out or already a young Picasso, this class will help you improve your skills! Students will
experiment with a variety of drawing and painting techniques and media, including pen and ink, watercolor, pastel, acrylic,
and charcoal. Work in the class will stress skill development, creative problem-solving, and visual literacy. Crosscurricular
connections are made throughout the course.
DRAWING AND PAINTING 2 – One quarter
For those students wanting to take their drawing and painting skills further, this is the class to take. Building on what
students have learned in Drawing & Painting I, we will explore other media and techniques (ink wash, acrylic, pastel, and
more) while expanding skills in composition, creativity, and visual literacy. Prerequisite: Drawing & Painting 1
